Dear John, Though I enjoyed your weather event rant on TMJ4, it has been haunting me ever since. I don't know if you've noticed but things haven't gotten better. It's quite apparent that YOU have pissed off the snow gods. It wasn't enough that you had to ridicule the snow and temperatures and "freezing fog" -- but you had to go and say the one phrase that really pisses of the snow gods the most. I mean, imagine you were a snow god, you have been creating weather "events" that have everyone talking and complaining - what phrase would piss you off the most? Global warming. Global warming. Think of it. Global warming. RAAAHHHH - icicles flying from the skies like ice daggers going in every direction. Freezing rain, then 10" of snow, then sleet, then 12 below. I think you owe them some sort of apology. Maybe you could stand out on the TMJ4 weather deck, drink a slushie really fast and get an ice cream headache and then face into the west wind with your arms outstretched like in Titanic and wheeze "MAKE IT STOP!" or "YOU WIN, YOU WIN!" or "I'LL VOTE FOR McCAIN! Whatever it takes, John, please. Think of the children. My kids will be making up snow days until July thanks to you.
Bill from Whitewater
John, John, John... It's Pam Jackson here. Tony Hawkins and I were chatting during our respective commutes, (he is the DEAN of arts & humanities for Montgomery College, and I teach many an arts and theatre and dance class at a nonprofit for adults with mental challenges) talking about OLD dinner theatre days. Joe Inscoe the hottie!! And I told him of the little black suede ankle boots you gave for Christmas. I remember your GREAT laugh, Tucky Requa and the box office at the harlequin. You were great in Joseph and it's great to see that you are still workin' it!! Pam
Hello Mr. McGivern! I just wanted to share with you that your performance on WKLH's Christmas Program on television was one of the most wonderful stories I have ever heard. I never laughed nor cried so much all at one time. You brought back for my family the true meaning of Christmas and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for that! My second oldest brother came to our home before we were to go to my oldest brothers home for Christmas Eve. My husband and me taped the program and thought it would be the perfect time to share your performance with him. As we all watched it, my two kids ages 16 and 19, my husband, myself and my brother, I could only smile seeing their faces and relating to all your glorious Mom stories and traditions. At the end, I looked over and saw my brother in tears as well as myself and hugged him hard and said SEE, this is what it's all about and one day you too will appreciate my quirky traditions and appreciate them. Again, I thank you for bringing back so many memories and the true meaning of Christmas. I look forward to seeing you in person during a performance and hopefully NOT, in Plymouth Wisconsin. What a funny story!!! Lisa: West Bend WI.
Loved the Christmas show. I have to say my family also had the bar on the card table, hidden by a table cloth, as well. So even the set was a blast from the past. We also had a Rambler station wagon, ours had deflective doors. Only one really worked so we all had to go in and out of the drivers side door. But we took our Rambler to the Gingerbread house as well and it is a great memory. We usually went at night so it was completely magically. We also went to the secret ship at Gimbels. Do you remember that? You went and took your little budget and could go shopping in the secret shop without your mother. It was the way to buy your special hand lotion or other valuable present for your mother in secret. We also had a Mary pretending to be a Marie.. is this in the Irish handbook someplace?? Marie is not even a very Irish name. Merry Christmas to you and Steve.
Paula Lucey
John, Merry Christmas. I'm a streamer of the Dave & Carol show and wanted you to know how much I enjoy listening to you. Your memories of your childhood make me stop in my tracks and realize how insightful you are. Thanks!
Sincerely, Kurt Marshall: Albuquerque, NM.
John, Liz & Chuck here at Sweethaven Resort in Union Pier Michigan, really miss seeing your face. I think the last time we saw that puss of yours was when you were coming up to see Paula & Andy. Will you ever be coming back??? We now have a live theater in Three Oaks called the Acorn Theater perhaps you can do a 1 man show there! Isn't that a great idea and you could stay here. So I've booked you a cottage and I have a venue for you to perform, so what else do I have to do to get you out of Wisconsin and into Michigan for a couple days. What do you think? It could be fun!
Liz & Chuck
John, My husband & I were at your show, Winter Tales, last Friday at the South Milwaukee PAC.....we enjoyed it so much that I just ordered 16 tickets for your performance on Sunday, 12/23 at 7 pm - we're taking our parents; 4 (of my 7) siblings along with their spouses and 4 nieces and nephews. Yes, we're Catholic....grew up in Chilton (just north of New Holstein) and every Good Friday growing up we went to mass at Mt. Calvary. I'm sure my entire family will thoroughly enjoy the show. Happy Holidays!
Anne
John, Great fun at Winter Tales last night (South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center)! Beautiful venue, wonderful staff, good time had by all. Nancy loves you and was thrilled to meet you. We want more and will see you again soon. You are truly unique and a Milwaukee treasure. Best wishes....
Pete & Nancy: West Allis
John, I loved your Wonder Bread Years show! Laughed and laughed with the crowd. My husband and I couldn't get seats together, but I couldn't miss seeing that, so I drove down by myself. 4th row!!! I am 50 and I felt like part of the family in the audience. Laughing hysterically with everyone else. Clackers were fun and painful. Thanks for bringing all that wonder back into so many lives.
Franklin Fan
My husband, my boys aged 13 and 11, and I watched a Midsummer's Night McGivern on Channel 10 Sunday night. What can I say, we laughed, we cried, we bonded. Living near the "Holy land", I almost fell off the couch when you added New Holstein to list. Holy Cow! Thank you for a wonderful show. I am ordering the DVD to send to friends in California who are former Milwaukeeans.
Karen: Sheboygan, WI.
Dear John, Just a short note of “Thanks” for a wonderful evening in Plymouth, laughing out loud, tears running down our cheeks, sides hurting and most of all your sincere understanding of what’s important in our lives. We did get to meet you after the performance in the school cafeteria. We were the table of four from Sargento. I wanted to let you know that that evening was the first time in almost 10 years that my daughter, who has bipolar disorder, laughed until she couldn’t get a breath. Your brought a few wonderful moments of sheer joy to an otherwise lonesome, depressed existence. Thank you for your fabulous talent that helped her enjoy herself sooooo much that evening. Looking forward to more entertaining performances. Thank you again for your trip to our little city. P.S. My son, Patrick, can totally relate to your week in GS camp with your MOM and Sis. He spent a week in Indian garb in Pennsylvania with his Mom and sis and is now teaching the that song to his son, Colin!
Dick, Doreen and Michele Williamson
Mr. McGivern, I saw your Summer show this evening for the second time on television. I had first seen it just days after moving into my home this past summer. I can say it was even better this time. You have created something that is the same in us all and just waiting to be revived. I'm not as old as you nor did I grow up near Milwaukee. I do have parents that are likely the the age of yours and I grew up in the Fox Valley in one of those homes that still needs me to drive up and change all eighteen windows on the first floor and seven more on the second floor. I went to Wild Rose and Red Granite for "Summer Vacations". My first introduction to the female form was that of my two hundred pound great auntie at the lake. I can almost list point to point from your show to my life. All but almost losing my sibling.
You took me through a ride of laughs and thoughts and even some tears from you and your family. I must confess that I can't stand your segments that have been on the local news as they seem forced and almost a test run of future bits, but a whole show seemed like one of the gang walking through their life almost as if I lived it with them. Sir, you have a real talent. A talent that reached me and so many more people. I can only imagine the number of people in the theater that must have been counting on their fingers the number of windows that they needed to change or walking down that sandy stone path between the trees and down to the lake.
I have lived in many places around this country and they all have the same stories and memories. You just have a way to open that special spot in our minds that we are often too fearful or too busy to look at as often as we should. The nationalities and religions are different, the lakes and towns have different names, and the years might have different numbers to them; you walk us to that door and help us to open it once more and enjoy what we were and where we came from.
None of us do that enough and that might just explain why there are so many angry people in this world just racing from point to point in a feeble attempt to create these types of memories. Thank you for helping me stop and appreciate what made me to be me. Thank you for helping appreciate what my family was like and the effort that they put forward for me. Thank you for simply helping me sit back and laugh. You are a gifted person and I thank you for sharing it with me.
Terry
Saw your show in Elm Grove last night with my mother who sounds a lot like your mom. I saw a lot of our family in your show last year which is why I brought my mom this year. Like your dad, my 100% Irish Catholic (WWII vet) father died at age 54 and boy was he strict! You had lots of great stories. Motivated me to come home and jot down some of my own last night. By the way, first show I took my mom to that I didn't catch her starting to snooze. Thanks! P.S. All 5 kids have "odd" names - must be because my dad married a Methodist who had to convert, but she still couldn't cook!
Naomi
Dear John, I always watch you on TMJ4 on Fridays, even if I get to school a little later. Last Friday, your comments hallowing Thanksgiving as a time of love and sharing was one of the most heartwarming things I've ever heard about the holiday. After I heard it, I decided to not be such an old curmudgeon and accept a Thanksgiving imitation from a dear friend of mine instead of being the rogue bachelor at home staring at the Macy's parade. You have a voluminous and generous heart and are surely one of Milwaukee's treasures. I remain grateful.
Bill Jackson
My husband and I just saw the Wonder Bread Years, thanks for a great night of laughs and nostalgia. You are a wonderful source of entertainment. Thanks again for a very fun night!
Michelle: Milwaukee, WI.
Hi John, Loved, loved, loved the show!!! We laughed so much. Sorry to write so late. My sister and I were at your October 13th show. We were sitting right behind the woman who said she brought a dead bat to show and tell. Well, when you were talking about the whole zipper being down thing – my sister and I immediately turned to each other and said “what can’t get up can’t get out.” In our Dad’s later years (he passed in 1999) if we happened to tell him his zipper was down that was his response. Of course, he liked his beer and “occasional” shot of brandy so maybe that’s why he felt the need to share. Neither one of us was brave enough to shout that out to you that night but I thought you might find that funny. Thank you for a very fun evening!!! P.S. Yummy Twinkies – I hadn’t had one in years.
Sue B & Patty K
Hi John, Went to see Wonder Bread Years on Saturday. It was so great. I think the message of remembering what we have in common has never been needed more!. My friends and I spent the rest the evening doing our own memories. One of my best show and tell items is a chatty Cathy Doll that could talk and even walk. Have not seen you around lately but loved seeing you on stage.
Paula Lucey: Greenfield, WI.
Hi John, My family and I just saw your show last night at the Marcus Theater, I was in the third row and yelled out “Clackers” when you brought them out for a story. You asked me to come up on stage but I was to scared! Anyway, as usual, the play was spectacular! Ever since we saw your show over Christmas two years ago…we have never missed one of your productions! I think what you do is just FABULOUS! You are a very talented guy! Thank you for bringing some joy into our lives! I LOVE YOU!!!
Brittany Frye: Plymouth, WI.
John, Took my parents and my foster daughter to the show Saturday night to celebrate my 36th birthday! Great fun and good icebreaker as it was first visit from my folks since our little darling moved in. We all enjoyed it so very much. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the birthday gift that you unwittingly gave to me.
Jen: Waukesha
Hey, John! Nine of your greatest fans had a ball at the Wonder Bread Years. They were laughing so hard most of them were crying! We learned a lot from you in class but your position as King of the Story Tellers is still secure......you are the BEST! Our Story Tellers group has genuinely bonded. We meet at Rudy's and have a wonderful time, sharing a very special and unusual closeness. I was personally really touched because they were all so supportive of me after the death of my brother Andre. It was as if they all knew him. Are you teaching a class now? How can I find out about it? Depending on timing, if you're planning another student performance at the end I would love to still be part of it. I know it can never hope to be as good as OUR class was but I still would enjoy it.
Nici Teweles
OK John, you have just made my day---big time! And since I have been meaning to write for years, I will now. I first saw you perform in Shear Madness some years ago when I visited family in MKE. Then because I enjoyed you so much, I caught your late night monologue, which had me laughing and crying. Mostly laughing until I cried. I came back for another show a few days later with a tribe of family. I live in Sydney, but grew up in MKE, and so I share and appreciate your perspective on many issues. Each time I visit, I look for you. I thought I would catch a show in my upcoming trip, but things changed and again I missed the programmed season for The Wonder Bread Years. Rats! To top it off I fly out on the afternoon of your New Berlin performance! Rats again! I bemoaned the fact---to my brother and sister-in-law, who live in MKE and with whom I attended your monologues. And an hour ago I checked my email to find a message from my sister-in-law----she heard on the radio that you extended your season and we have tickets! I arrive in time for your last performance. Now how fantastic is that? ‘Red rover, red rover, can Jeanne, Mark and Cathy come over!’ ‘Yes!’ Looking forward to it. All the best.
Jeanne Fehrenbach
Hi John, Saw your show Sunday 10-14. It was great once again. Thanks for all the laughs. I haven't seen Shear Madness yet. Where was I? Who knows but I hope you bring it back again soon.
Rosie: Sheboygan
Hi John, Attended your show last night and you hit it right on except that I grew up on the south side. I didn’t have the courage to tell you that I had sort of a show and tell experience when I was a freshman in high school: St. Mary’s Academy, where I brought my newest brother to school to show off and everyone thought that he was my son rather than my brother! So much for coveting what was shown for show and tell! Keep the laughter coming.
MaryAnn: New Berlin
Just needed to thank you for making me laugh!! Attended your show on Friday night and can't remember when I laughed so hard. You truly have and gift and I am so happy you are sharing it with the world. You made me think about the things I can teach my nieces and nephews so they too have memories to look back on as adults and laugh. Thanks again and God Bless.
Connie
John, Saw the Wonderbread Years last night....what an amazing gift you are blessed with...the ability to make people laugh. It was a truly enjoyable evening. I found myself laughing at work remembering some of the things that were said. I'm looking forward to seeing your performance on Nov. 30th in South Milwaukee. You never disappoint!! Thanks for the many laughs.
Barb: Greenfield, WI.
John, My husband John and I are such fans that we are spending our 27th wedding anniversary with you on Thursday, October 11! We are looking forward to reliving our "Wonder Bread" years with you. We wish you continued great success and thank you for continually sharing yourself with Milwaukee!
Debbie Karegeannes
Hi John. We were in the audience at the Vogel Theatre last Sunday and enjoyed your show very much. All five of us laughed and laughed. We hardly finished one laugh and it was one after another...needed Kleenex for tears of laughter! And we all know laughter is the best medicine in the world. What an exhausting routine...how many shows a day can you handle? Wish you could come to little old Oshkosh and entertain more of us old folks. We have a lovely Grand Opera House which is well over 100 years old...very intimate setting. We'd love to have you!
Vern & Bev Ottman: Oshkosh, WI.
Hi John, Well another big day in our life is coming up. It will be our 30th wedding anniversary on Sunday, October 7th and we chose to spend it with you at your show that afternoon. I asked Sara if I should email you again, she said I could but it won't be a surprise this time. Can't wait to see your show.
Jerry & Sara Gordon:
Kohler, WI.
Great show in Kenosha
tonight. You made us smile and laugh a lot!!! And you do not look like Gus
Gnorski. By the way did you know he was from Kenosha?
He was a graduate of St. Joseph's High School. Keep up the great work and
keep us laughing!!!! Life is too short!
Joyce
John, Thanks for the laughs in West Bend tonight. You do such a wonderful job touching our hearts and always making us smile! Your the best!
Shelley
Good evening John: A wonderful meal at Carrabba's and then dessert at Kopp's...can't get much better than that! Hope to keep seeing you on WTMJ - it certainly starts the day with a smile. Thanks!
Carol
It wasn't until I saw yet another of your shows that I remembered that I forgot to tell you that you are absolutely RIGHT about the poop-throwing duo and their demise on the roof of Lakeside Sheet Metal on Oakland!!! Right after I heard you tell the story while attending your performance benefit at Plymouth HS, I called my brother, Chet (you know....the thumb). Yep - he confirmed that you and Bobby did indeed do that nasty deed and that you got in BIG trouble!! Did we let you play with us when we made igloo forts on each side of the alley with the boys against the girls and throw ice incrusted snowballs at each other? Do you remember our back yard where every winter my Dad (yes - the meanest one on the block!) would ice over the entire yard and we would ice skate? Several years back I saw you in Shear Madness and enjoyed you and the show so much, that I went to see you in the next performance that you did - when you started throwing out names and addresses that were very known to me I was shocked!! The audience laughed so hard and all I could think at the time was "Jeesh, I thought I had a regular childhood. Why is everyone laughing? I THOUGHT we were normal." Now, I realize that you bring back memories of a lot of childhoods....not just the one in the 3100 block of Bartlett! Thank you for that, John!
Ginny Rose
John, I have to say I have not missed a show of yours here in Milwaukee yet and will not anytime in the future. I want to Thank You for representing Milwaukee like NO one else could. Thank You once again and I’ll see you at your next show. I can’t wait for The Wonder Bread Years!
Andy
Banaszynski: Shorewood, WI.
John, I believe you have become the "Kleenex" of gay men in Milwaukee. As most people in advertising learn in Marketing 101 - once your "brand" becomes known as the product you lose brand identity. Hence most people think all tissue is Kleenex when in reality only one brand really is Kleenex. So you may ask yourself why I would think such a thing - well.. It has come to my attention that several of my male gay friends not only once but on several occasions have been mistaken for you. Now that may be a compliment however they really don't look like you at all. -Since this will be posted I won't say if they are more or less handsome! Anyway I think it would be great material for your comedy to talk about how you are now the gay man "Brand" in Milwaukee. If you need more details just e-mail back - love your shows and the comedy! thanks....
Jeanne Jarecki
John McGivern - Milwaukee's Greatest!!! Saw your show and TV Specials - hilarious, funny, entertaining. We are fans for life. Keep the funny stuff coming, we'll be there to watch. You are truly a great entertainer and one in a million!!!
Mike and Marion: Burlington, WI.
Hi John, My wife and I attended your show in Sheboygan last night. We laughed almost non-stop for the two hours of your show. We found everything so interesting since my wife grew up in Mount Calvary, and I went to UWM and lived in the 3300 block of Oakland Avenue. Your stories took us both back to growing up in a home with a father from WWII. The rules, chores, rituals, were so much a part of our lives, which is why we rebelled against for so long. Your wit and humor is greatly appreciated, and we hope you continue to create such wonderful strolls down memory lane. God bless you.
Warren & Ellen Krutzik
John, I just watched your “Midsummer Night’s McGivern” on PBS, and I have to tell you that I laughed SO hard I had tears running down my face. The visuals you painted are universal for those of us who grew up in the Midwest and are “of a certain age.” Thank you for taking me back to the wayback….
Joanne
From my email you can see where I work, I must say you just put on a wonderful performance at Acuity in Sheboygan, you're such a hoot, everyone I've talked with loved it. I've listened to you on Dave and Carol and laughed all the way to work, now I'll have to get my hubby to go to one of your shows, again thanks, come back to Acuity soon...
Jill Belonger
Thank you John for coming to Acuity! I have listened to you for quite some time on the Dave and Carol show. Sometimes I swear I might have an accident while driving down I-43 on the way to work because I am laughing so hard I can't see through the tears! I was brought up Catholic (Sister Marie was my nemesis) in a small town east of Green Bay called CASCO! And as your story of your sisters goes, my husband converted me to Lutheran, and WELS Lutheran at that! And yes, the Lutheran's sure do like to eat! All of our meetings and events come along with a wide array of food items! For the first few years after I converted, my husband would watch me as we entered church to see if I might genuflect or as I searched for the Holy Water to cross myself! I did live on Oakland Ave north of Locust Ave for 3 years in the early 1980's (before Dave and Carol were on the radio). We were just south of "Shorewood", almost classy! Although, my husband was attending MSOE and I made just enough money to pay the rent. I had to bartend one night a week for grocery money. I hope we can make it to your show in Sheboygan next week! Keep up the wonderful comedy. Laughter is soooo good for the heart and soul!
Christi Probst
John, We saw your show last night. It was fabulous. It was great going down memory lane. So much of what you had in your show was what I could relate to about my childhood. Great job. Thanks for keeping us entertained.
Alice Feldmeyer
We went to see “A Midsummer Night McGivern” on June 22. John is the Garrison Keillor of Milwaukee. He had his audience in the palm of his hand. It was an amazing show.
Janell and Dan: Cedarburg, WI.
John, My husband and I saw your Midsummer show this weekend. We laughed, I cried and it was wonderful. We both identified so much with all of your stories. Thank you for taking us back to a simpler time in our lives. As we have just moved in with my mother and the tables have turned, it was fun to remember our childhoods and how much fun we had. I think on the way home tonight I will buy my husband some magic and get some "snakes" for this Fourth of July. After all we just poured a new patio and it needs some initiation. Thank you for make all of Milwaukee laugh and think for so many years. You are truly a Milwaukee Gem!!
Rick and Kathy
Dear John - Last week I saw Midsummer. You were outstanding! It takes a real talent to stand on stage for 90 minutes and talk like we were having coffee. Especially your story about Mike. My office does business with him so I knew he was alright but during your story of looking for him, I even teared up. Looking forward to The Wonderbread Years.
Judi: Milwaukee
John, Saw the show on 6/27/07.You are one of Milwaukee's true treasure's. Thank You for the fine evening. We'll never miss one of your future shows.
Ken Thiede: Burlington
Dear John, We just received your DVD from your show at the Pabst in 2004. It was great. We were very touched by the personal envelope. We have seen Sheer Madness and Fully Committed (my favorite) and your Christmas show. We recently saw your show at the South Milwaukee PAC and it was absolutely wonderful. We laughed so hard. Please make a new DVD of that show, it was hilarious! Love when you talk about your family. The poop story was too much (that couldn't be my son, he can't throw). Please make a DVD of your new stuff, we will buy it now!!!! We will be at the new shows this summer. I have a gay friend who has a crucifix collection too. You are truly "Milwaukee's favorite son". We love you!!!!
Tom, Chris & Karen: Oak Creek, WI.
Hello John, please, please, please come to the Appleton WI area for a show. I watch you every week on the Daily Dish McGivern style and I would love to see you in person. I grew up in South Milwaukee many years ago and relate very well to your stories. They are wonderful and take me back in time not to mention laughing until I am crying on some of them! :)
Donelle Gelinskey: Neenah, WI.
John, I was at your performance this past Saturday night at the South Milwaukee PAC. I wanted to tell you what a wonderful show it was. You brought me to tears, both from laughter and tugging at my heart strings. We are the same age, my father a WWII veteran, passed away at age 55. I grew up in Milwaukee county much the same way you did. We have many similarities. You have a gift in taking us back to those gentler times. When we still had some innocence. If only for a brief time, you were able to take our minds to a different time, a different age, and for that I thank you. My wife and I were with two other couples and the feeling was unanimous, we all loved your performance. P.S. I'm embarrassed to say that although Lew and I are co-workers I am not a regular KLH listener. I am about to become one because of you.
Gregg R. Martin
John, I was at your performance tonight at the South Milwaukee PAC and I just wanted to say thank you for such a nice evening. You gave us more than a performance, you gave us an opportunity to do something we all don’t do often enough…laugh. You gave us a moment to look at “what is right with this picture.” Thanks again!
Sarah Hartung
Excellent show last night in
Burlington! You are such a funny, touching man. I didn’t know whether to laugh
or cry at times, but ended up doing both! Bravo to you! I hope you come back to
Burlington again. It was great!
Debra Kluge
Hi John, I just had to write after hearing your piece this morning on TMJ4 on the Char-Char-Nade Resort. What memories you brought back! That was also the vacation destination for our family every summer. I was an only child and all my cousins were grown, so it was me, my parents, and my aunt and uncle every summer in one of the two cottages. I was always a bit disappointed when we ended up in the boat house because of the outhouse. I slammed the door on it so hard one night that the piece of wood on the outside that held the door shut fell down and locked me in. I do remember playing with Charlotte and being very jealous that she had a playhouse that Charlie had built for her. It had real windows and curtains, and I was in heaven to play in there with her. I also remember walking down those long stairs to the beach one day and stepping barefoot on a grass snake. I can still feel it as I talk about it. Plus...I can still see how beautiful it was when the kids at the Lutheran camp across the lake would float candles on the lake at night at the end of their week's stay. Thanks so much for taking me back to that wonderful time!
Peg Poulsen Rauschenberger
Hey John, Just wanted to say thanks for putting a smile on my face every time I hear you, whether it's on WKLH, TMJ4 on Friday mornings, or at your shows. You have a great talent! My husband went to St. Peter/Paul school for all of grade school and grew up on Oakland Ave., so he can relate to all your East side/catholic school stories. You each have similar memories and have somehow managed to grow into normal adults! Anyway, thanks for the laughs! Keep up the fun!
Pat Repovsch & Brenda Brown
Hi John! My husband and I attended the 4:30pm show on Saturday Dec. 23rd. We have never laughed so hard or so much at any other show. You are awesome! Your facial expressions are the best! We were in the 2nd row on the south side of the room. I was the one with the infectious laugh! I can't tell you enough how much we enjoyed our night out, it was date night for us! If you ever have a tough crowd and they are not appreciating you as the should, just let us know, we will help make them laugh! You are the BEST!!!! You made us feel like we were part of your family. I would love to see your Mom's 88 Santa's! My Mom passed away on Dec 18, 2003 and my Husband's Mom passed away on Dec 5, 2001. We are both looking for a Mom figure to spoil... Can we join yours? My husband is Irish, Scottish and Slovak and Catholic. Unfortunately I am not Catholic. I am Lutheran, ya know Luther strayed away from the Catholic Church! Take care and have a Happy and Safe New Year!
Tracy Mc Leod
I loved your presentation on channel 4 this morning (12/15/06) on the Christmas trees. Growing up my family had the flocked ones (pink of course) and the aluminum ones with the light wheel. However, we had one you did not mention, a “Lux” tree. This was made by whipping Lux Flakes (which I am not sure they even make anymore) and a little water in to the consistency of whipped cream and spreading on the branches like snow. Then you sprinkled silver sparkle on the mixture to give the snow its glitter. The foam held up for an extended period of time and really looked pretty good, very 1950’s however.
Dick C. Kinney
Dear John - My mom and I attended your Saturday performance at JMKAC and we are still talking about it. You are a funny, poignant, warm and wonderful storyteller--it was the most heart-warming holiday show I have seen in years. My only regret is that my 80-year old father was too ill to use his ticket. As a lifetime resident of the "holyland" and a Milwaukee east-sider during his college years, he would have loved your show so much. He also married an Irish, Catholic woman who learned cooking from the same school as your mom. My poor mom's cooking is still negatively compared to her mother-in-law's-- even after 50 years. Is there any chance you have recorded your Christmas stories and have for sale? I'd love to get it for my dad since he missed the show. Merry, Merry Christmas.
Mary Jo Walsdorf
Hi John, Excellent
show again last night in Sheboygan - A Very Merry McGivern! I laughed so
hard, I was crying among other things! Your Catholic school stories
bring back such memories. My extended family and I have seen Sheer
Madness, Fully Committed, Santaland Diaries, your show in Plymouth and
now the Very Merry McGivern. I have also recruited a gal from work and
one of my bosses to see your shows, and they are now hooked. Can't wait
for the next show! Enjoy the holidays with mom and the 68 ceramic Santas!
Nancy: Sheboygan, WI
Hi John, Just got back from your show in Sheboygan. It was great as expected. I have seen several of your shows.
John- Thanks so much for your donation of tickets for A Very McGivern Christmas to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation auction. I’m a bit embarrassed to say that I’d never heard of you (we live protected lives here in Madison), and that I bid on the item because of the David Sedaris content. We trekked to Cedarburg on an icy night and were glad we did. You’re a riot, and I must say that we all liked your own material the best! Our 13-yr-old, who always wants to leave a show or concert at intermission, never suggested such, and was highly entertained throughout. He recited his favorite lines on the way home, and his questions about certain material even made for a few good “teaching opportunities”. (Don’t worry, we taught him good.)
Thanks again,
Betsey,
Jim and Tristan: Middleton, WI.
Great, great benefit show at Plymouth High School on Oct 28th! I've seen every play you've done, but had never seen you do 'stand-up'...but this was so much more than stand-up!! It was personal, it was moving, it was hysterically funny, it was reminiscent, it reminded us of the importance of family -- despite what we might think of them! You are a gift! Laurel - your banker's buddy! P.S. Where's the McGivern Mall!!?? I need some fan stuff!! Shirt, hat, tasteful tote!!! You don't want me to make my own -- remember the face-on-a-stick?!?! :)
Laurel: Sheboygan, WI.
John, my wife and I just attended your show this past Saturday at the Plymouth High School. You were great as always, keep up the great work and stay funny.
Bill Roeder: Sheboygan, WI.
Thanks John for the wonderful show at Irish Fest! Everyone should laugh like that every day, sure would make the day go by easier. We had a great time as did everyone else there :)
Karen Donohoe: Elm Grove, WI.
John, thanks so much for your awesome appearance at the Jessica Vianes Memorial benefit. I was fortunate to work with Nancy for seven or eight years and she is such a wonderful and strong person. Your show was really touching, especially the ending dialog regarding your days as a Journal boy. You are truly one of Milwaukee's treasures!
Scott McFadden: Whitefish Bay, WI.
My husband and I have been to see your shows in Milwaukee. Your technique and timing are always perfect, as was the timing of those shows, our anniversary or a much needed night out! I look forward to seeing Shear Madness in Chicago, it was fantastic when we saw it performed in Milwaukee. Thanks for the laughter and your inspiring messages.
Marcy: Winthrop Harbor, IL.
Dear John, My wife and I saw "Fully Committed" last night in Sheboygan and have become fully committed fans...Tremendous show and absolutely loved the fast-paced flow of the show... It is our third show of yours that we have seen, and are looking forward to December in Sheboygan...Keep up the good work! Thanks for the Laughs....
Paul and Jennifer Swanson: Kiel, WI.
Hi, We enjoyed the jokes on Friday night. Being Lutheran, we appreciate the positive comments about recipes. Anytime you use Miracle Whip, just call it salad. My husband is a Lutheran minister!
Ruth Werth: Lebanon, WI.
Hello John, Just attended your show this past Friday - Midsummer's Tales - It was great- I just loved it as it did bring back many of the things I had to do each summer during vacation.
Suzie Helminski: West Allis, WI.
My sisters and I saw A Midsummer Night McGivern on Saturday July 15th in Cedarburg. It was a wonderful show bringing back a lot of our own memories growing up in Wisconsin. Looking forward to more of your work.
Carol Braby: South Milwaukee, WI.
I went to "A Midsummer Night McGivern" last night. I just wanted to thank John for the wonderful trip down memory lane of my childhood. I cannot remember the last time I laughed so hard for so long. Thanks for a wonderful night at the Cedarburg PAC.
Larry: West Bend, WI.
Dearest John, Just wanted to take a moment this morning and tell you how very much we enjoyed your show last night at the Cedarburg PAC. As usual, your mastery of story telling came to the front as you so skillfully wove your tapestry of summer. You opened your arms to us and let us into corners of your life and we laughed with you and you massaged out hearts with love and sorrow as we almost wept over your Michael in the mud story. John, you truly are a genius at conveying the basic love we all have in common, even if we have to go back in our memories to find it. Again, thank you for being you... ...with respect, admiration and love, Harry.
Harry Sutton & Mike: Beautiful Mequon, WI.
Summer stories: Appreciated the Memorial Day story - Genuine (& gratefully, less posturing or politics). Nicely done. Good collection of bitter-sweet vignettes. Nicely played.
Marine Mom: Mequon, WI.
Saw "Holiday Tales" last night. And I thought my mother was the only cook who boiled her vegetables to the consistency of a wet noodle. Thanks again for your wonderful talents. Great Show!
Jim May: Oconomowoc, WI.
Dear
John......soo cliché
I am madly in love with all you do, I could be called a stalker by most. I have
seen all your shows at Vogel Hall as well as attended a benefit you did for NM
at the Four Points Sheridan. As most of the others commenting, you are great. I
just found out about the DVD...top of my x-mas list. Can't wait to see the next
show in Jan...
Beth: Cudahy, WI.
We enjoyed your show so much at the Milwaukee Rep on Friday Oct 28th. You made everyone there seem like your own personal friend. It felt so good to be laughing continuously. Not only are you entertaining, but we all came out healthier than when we came in, since laughing is so good for all of us. I would recommend your show to everyone I know. You were worth staying up late for. You and Ryan McIntyre are a very good pair, entertaining and very talented.. Hope to see you both again soon.. Thanks again for a very enjoyable evening..
Shirley Hofstetter: Waukesha, WI.
Hello John, I've been a long time listener of WKLH, and thoroughly enjoy all of you and your non-stop laughter! I recently attended the recent West Bend Chamber Annual dinner featuring you as the keynote speaker. I laughed so hard, as did everyone in attendance (anyone breathing that is!) It was great to see the relaxing side of executives brought out by you. I look forward to seeing another live performance of you soon! p.s. You're mother is soooo funny too! Thanx for a great night, Mary
Mary: Hartford, WI.
John, I attended your show (Odd Couple) last night, June 13th, with our group of 18, we all enjoyed it , Bravo!! Well done, great cast, very funny. Heard you say the show has already been extended, plan on sharing the news with my friends and clients, as I work as a hairdresser... also loved Shear Madness!! I wish you continued success, you are a favorite!
Donna Brown
My wife and I spent a lovely morning today down at the Marcus box office. I gotta tell ya... I can't remember a more wonderful ticket buying experience ever! Of course this was the first day of single seat sales for The Odd Couple and John was there to meet and greet those buying tickets and can I tell ya... He really was working the crowd!! As an extra bonus, the first 100 happy ticket buyers got to pose with John for a picture. I just wanted to take this time to give a "High Snap" to John for taking part in this event. How many other artists or performers do you know that would take part in an event like this to give back to their loyal fans? I dare say the answer is not many if any at all! My wife and I got great seats for the show, shared some great chit chat with John and of course got our picture with John. How fun is that?!?! Thanks to John, WKLH and The Marcus for a fun morning!!
Jon & Cindy Sbordone: Menomonee Falls, WI.
John, I have seen your show "Shear Madness" twice, your one-man show and went to the Pabst and saw you and Kate Clinton. All were great and I can't wait to see Odd Couple this coming summer. I was wondering if you ever assist in bringing good talent to Milwaukee. I have seen Suede, the very talented female jazz and blues singer, a number of times on the East Coast, but she has never appeared in Milwaukee. When I asked her why she doesn't come to Milwaukee, she said she couldn't get booked here because they (not sure who "they" are) don't think she would draw enough people to her show. If you have never heard her sing, you're missing something. She is a very talented and enjoyable entertainer. I thought of her when I went to see you and Kate Clinton. Given your ability to draw crowds to anything you do, maybe Suede would be a good second act for one of your shows. I think Milwaukee would enjoy her singing. Just a thought. Again, thanks for the many laughs and good times.
Marcia: Waukesha, WI.
After listening to John on KLH radio for several years, I went to his 1 man show and laughed so hard I was crying. I knew at that time I had to share this wonderfully warm, funny, loving man with my friends. Thank you, John, for sharing your memories of growing up in Milwaukee with the rest of us who also grew up in Milwaukee in the 50's and 60's and lived to tell about it.
Carol Eastman: Milwaukee, WI.
John, My friends and I enjoyed your show "Fully Committed" at the Jaeb Theater on 01/24/04. You are blessed with a great talent! Keep the smile!
Frances Scott: Tampa, FL.
John, I was vacationing in San Francisco 5 years ago & caught your one-man act after "Shear Madness." There happened to be 2 small groups of Wisconsites in the crowd & we were all in tears for the bulk of your show. Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed that evening & how often it brings a smile to my face.
Christopher Little: West Hartford State, CT.
John is one of the many things that I miss about Milwaukee. I miss his visits on WKLH. No one on the east coast can be as great as John. Miss you John!
Mike Messenger: Princeton, NJ.
My
husband and I have seen John perform numerous times, Shear Madness (twice),
Fully Committed and his stand up show and look forward to any of his
performances. We would love to know when he is planning on performing the Odd
Couple show. We have friends who would love to see him again also, so please
keep us updated. Thanks for some great times John!!
David & Janet Tomczek: West Bend, WI.
My name is Jenna and I'm related to John. I'm 11 years old. Good bye..........
Jenna McGivern: Hatley, WI.
Hi! I
had one of the most fun nights of my life last night at dinner with you, Laura
and Jonathan. The food was great, the waiter was great, the hosts were great and
I loved it!! Thanks for making it a great night.
P.S. Oh, I forgot to tell you that I was up 2# this AM in spite of you telling
me there were NO points in that food! :)
Ann Strakulski: Pewaukee, WI.
John, Just wanted to take a second to say that we caught your show Friday night Sept. 26th at the PAC in Cedarburg and, as always, it was a wonderful evening of entertainment! We're going to miss you while you're in Florida but we're looking forward to your return next season. Gotta tell ya, we know what your show is for next season... and per your request... we're telling everyone! ! !
Jon & Cindy Sbordone: Menomonee Falls, WI.
John,
Saw you in Cedarburg Saturday night. What a great show. You made us all
laugh--even my brother-in-law who didn't want to go. When you came through the
audience I had a chance to shake your hand and you asked if my husband was
sitting next to me and then proceeded to ask him why he hadn't called you
lately. That was fun. Your letter to your dad was great and made us all think
about our lives.
I have a cousin who is a Catholic Priest, Father Kevin (who calls in on a
different radio station--ends in I) and the two of you would have lots to talk
about regarding Mt. Calvary.
Anyway thanks for the great show, laughs and things in our lives to think about.
You're great!
Debbie: Belgium, WI.
John, Thank you for the wonderful show at the Pabst this past weekend. You are simply the best! Your stories are just hilarious. I also had the pleasure of meeting your sisters last year at Summerfest. They shared a "standing room only" picnic table with us at the Indigo Girls concert. They are a blast too!
Heather: Waukesha, WI.
My wife and I had the pure joy of seeing "Fully Committed" last week. We highly recommend this show to any of you out there that are looking for a wonderful evening of theater and don't mind your sides aching from uncontrollable laughter! We are so lucky to be able to call John "Milwaukee's Own" ! !
Jon Sbordone: Menomonee Falls, WI.
I just saw John in Fully Committed and he is great, it was so funny. I love to listen to him on WKLH in the mornings too. For anyone who hasn't seen his one man show, I would suggest seeing it, it is really great.
Stacy L. Hardwick: Milwaukee, WI.
For anyone who was not able to see John at the Repertory Theater for "Fully Committed", you must go see him at the Marcus Theater for this show... If one John McGivern can make you laugh, just imagine what 40 of them can do...He's simply amazing and of course very funny... You will also see his "serious" acting abilities when talking to dad.... Thanks John for helping Milwaukee SMILE :)
Terry Hoyt: Milwaukee, WI.
John, I just love it when you are on KLH in the morning, you absolutely crack me up and definitely make my morning commute to work much much more amusing!
Erika: Lake Mills, WI.
John, Just loved the skit at Dominican. The Sister Gabriel thing was just great. Thanks for taking me back in time for a night and reminding me of how close all of us were being born and raised on the East Side. For the years I spent at SSPP, and competing with and against your brothers Jim and Tim is something that will remain in my heart and thoughts forever. God Bless You and please continue to make people smile.
John J. Kisley (Class of 1966): Milwaukee, WI.
You were a smash at Dominican last night. Your bit about the chairs and the Circus Parade really hit home. My daughter and her family from San Francisco have been here several times for the parade. The first time she accompanied me to deposit our chairs on Thursday, she too was speechless that I could go back and they'd still be there on Sunday. You are clever, compassionate and have the ability to make us all take a deep breath, step back and see the humor all around us and in our beloved Milwaukee.
Marianne Schulz: Whitefish Bay, WI.
Hi John, I attended your show at Dominican high school today. It was awesome! You charmed the "pants "off of that house with your ingenious wit and perfect timing and delivery. You had those two nuns down perfect and had the audience in the palm of your hand. Shear Madness was wonderful. Hoping to see you in your new show, if it's not already sold out. Thank you for bringing a breath of fresh air to Milwaukee. Thank you for making my evening totally entertaining. Thank you for coming back to your home town and sharing your comedic genius with us. P.S. I heard that you liked the little communion doll I gave Diane for her " first communion" (quite a few years too late).
Karen Miller
Dear John, Just a quick little note to say how much I enjoyed your presentation @ WCTC yesterday. You made my day more special!!! I admire your honesty, humor & talent!! You are truly a very special person with many God-given gifts to share. Keep up all your good "work" !! Much care to you & your family. P.S. We saw Shear Madness & I never laughed so hard & so long in my life!!
Sandy Henke: North Prairie, WI.
My 17 year
old son and I went to see you in Sheer Madness. I can't remember the last time
we had so much fun at a performance! Can't wait to see your new adventure. We
wouldn't miss it- he already asked if we could go!
Thank you John!
Beth: Oconomowoc, WI.
Hi John, We
just saw “Fully Committed.” You were so wonderful. I urge everyone to go see
it!! There is no insanity in your family. You have it all!! You are the most
talented actor I’ve had the pleasure of seeing in a long time
Keep it up. We’ll be watching!!
Nance B: Wauwatosa,
WI.
John, I was up in Milwaukee on business this last week and our group was treated to a spectacular show on Thursday night at Shear Madness. I told my wife I have not laughed that hard literally in a long time. She was so jealous that we are coming up this summer to see you in "Fully Committed". Enjoy the remainder of "Shear Madness" and good luck with the upcoming expansion of "Fully Committed."
Chris East: Birmingham, AL.
Thank you for the autograph. I had lots of fun at Shear Madness.
Liz Speech: Neenah, WI.
You did great at Shear Madness. Thank you for the Deputy badge.
Cate Speech: Neenah, WI.
Hi John, My husband and I were in the front row at your show this past Saturday night at the PAC in Cedarburg. We truly enjoyed the show. We do not live in "Cedar Pointe", we live in Grafton, in fact not too far from your mother. The reason we know this is on the 4th of July you speak about regarding the "key lime pie", we so happened to be driving to our house and I spotted you playing ball in the backyard of the condos off of First Avenue. I said to my husband, I just saw John McGivern playing ball back there. He said, "How do you know that was him?" Well as the ball was coming to you, you dropped it!! All kidding aside, we truly enjoy your work. We also had the chance to see you in Racine at the Racine Zoo, Roz from WKLH was also there. We laughed and laughed. Thank you for bringing humor into our lives. Continued success to you!
Ann Ruska: Grafton, WI.
Hey John (my "Pewter" Santa Fe friend)...I want to let you know that you were absolutely adorable on Sunday Night w/Mike Gousha. Who was cuter? Tough call, but I think the bluish/purple shirt wins. At any rate, I wanted you to know that you are the ONLY reason I'd stay up past 10 on a school night. Hope to see you at yet another night of Shear Madness (I'm going for a record), and definitely at Totally Committed in April. Can't wait! Be Well....Jules ("Nordic White" Santa Fe) P.S. I read one of the stories on your site about going shopping for "Husky" clothes. Hey buddy...for us chicks it was JP clothes...for "Junior Plenty". Dear God...plenty of what? Personally, I think us kids that were forced to wear clothes labeled "Husky" and "Junior Plenty" clothing ought to go to Sears and beat the crap out of somebody!
Jules
I had the
opportunity to see John twice- once in Shear Madness and his one man show
January 19, 03. Shear Madness was simply hilarious... As kids, I was in the same
class as John at St. Peter & Paul grade school on Milwaukee's East side. All the
things he says about those nuns, and growing up on the East side, are so true. I
forgot most of the memories until his performance. I wish some of the nuns were
still around to see John now. I'm sure they would have split a gut in laughter
as I did... Thanks John for turning those dreaded grade school days into a very
funny evening... Go Chargers!
Terry: Milwaukee,
WI.
John, Shear Madness I have seen several times and try to take someone new each time and each time I enjoy it even more. Can’t wait to see Fully Committed. Lovers and Execut. was different but funny. I thought your part was going to be bigger but we weren’t disappointed, you were a stitch. So you see John you don’t always have to be the main attraction to be funny. Why do you have to be gay? Come party with us.
Cindy: Milwaukee, WI.
John, a group of us attended the 1/17/03 Friday night stand-up/concert at the Todd Wehr. We really enjoyed you and your guests! Some very funny and poignant moments! We've also attended Shear Madness twice and thoroughly enjoyed!
Jeanie Gonzalez: Franklin, WI.
Just saw "Shear Madness" last night with a group from VICI Capilli Salon at Brookfield Square. The debate rages on as to just how many "Tony's" and "Barbara's" we have! Too bad you were out of town when Dave & Carole did their morning show live from our salon last Fall. We would have had way too much fun with you! Maybe next time...
Ron Thomas: Milwaukee, WI.
John, just want to say thank you. My wife and I saw "Shear Madness" in November. We loved it so much we took our 3 daughters and my parents to the matinee on Dec 30th. [(By the way, my 17-year old Emily is the one who told you at the break that she thought you did it but could she have a piece of candy anyway? Your response: "I don't hold a grudge... you little shit!" Now was that necessary :-)] Anyway, last night (Jan 3) my wife and I came to "Late Night" and this morning we ordered tickets for "Fully Committed" (last night, center stage). Thank you. You are a fantastic performer and unless it's all just part of the act, a truly good, kind hearted man. I am with you on the "words of hope" you hear from your nieces and nephews... If only everyone's response to learning a friend, relative, colleague, whatever was gay was "and???". Here's to many more years of events in Milwaukee staring John McGivern!
Ken Denison: Delafield, WI.
Dear John - I saw Shear
Madness for the 2nd time Friday night, also went to your Late Night Show.
You may remember me, I sat in the first row, on the side and disputed with the
Detective that Barb committed the murder though she said she was out for a
cigarette. I realize you make no bones about being gay, and that is fine,
however that subject just seemed to take up most of your Late Night show.
Richard Pryor would do much of the same thing about being black and that gets
kind of old after awhile. Bill Cosby had a great knack for telling true to life
stories without any kind of racial, ethnic, or religious overtone. You have a
lot of talent as you well know, I would just like to see you tell more true to
life stories about things you observe or live through as a person, not being
gay, white, Catholic or otherwise, just a being a human being here on earth. Do
you understand what I mean? Thank you for this opportunity to give you some
feedback, I really enjoy your show "Shear Madness". I am not sure if you ever
performed in Chicago with my cousin, Fred Zimmerman, he played the part of the
Investigator. Have a great year and glad you are home.
Tracy Kurasiewicz
John, my sister tells me your performance was most excellent & what a hoot you are. I'm am so happy to hear about you. It's been a few decades since I last saw or heard about you. Remember the Oshkosh days?!!!!
Denny: Durham, NC.
Great show Saturday night (12/14/02). Enjoyed your performance and the tremendous ad-libbing that went on. It kept everyone on their toes including the other performers. Keep it up!
Rob Schoewe: Sun Prairie, WI.
Saw John's "One Man
Show" a couple of years ago with my daughter, the next year we again went to his
one man show. This is one of the funniest and touching programs I've ever gone
to. We went to Shear Madness last year and added my granddaughter and the lady
I am seeing to our group. This year had a group from Kohl's Department Store
join us, one of the people who said that they never laugh at anything had a
ball, as did we all. John was really able to show his acting ability when his
character "Tony" was voted as the murderer, his change of demeanor from a nice
guy to to a very angry man. My daughter has left several feedbacks on this
website and during the intermission at Shear Madness we got to talk to John and
he knew her right away, it made both her and my granddaughters night when he
took the time to sign their programs. We have seen John also at Lovers and
Executioners and have plans to see him for Fully Committed sometime in April. My
daughter got me interested in local theater during her high school years and I
have been a subscriber to the Milwaukee Rep for a couple of years, and I have
enjoyed everything I have seen there and at other theaters but for sheer fun you
can't beat going to one of John's shows.
Kenneth Doine: Milwaukee, WI.
John, I have recently relocated to Arizona and must say that I miss Milwaukee very much. I have attended your Sheer Madness program in the past and attended your one-man show. I was an avid listener of WKLH and would listen when you were on during the Tuesday segments. My question to you is would you ever consider doing a Sheer Madness run in the Phoenix area. If so, I would definitely attend. Some friends of mine recently attended one and said it was better than the first. My husband has never seen one and I would love to take him to one of your shows except that we live in AZ and you live in WI. Just wondering if that would ever be possible. Besides, I loved the story about your mother making it to AZ on $88 with Ralph and the other ladies. I also loved the stories your told about the Catholic up bringing. I also was raised Catholic and attended a Catholic grade school and high school. Thanks for all your enjoyment in the past. Would definitely attend a show if it was ever in the Phoenix area. Also would get other people to attend with me. Keep up the wonderful entertaining you do. Take care.
Paula: Cave Creek, AZ.
Had the pleasure of seeing Shear
Madness for the 4th time just yesterday, and can't seem to get enough of it.
Had the opportunity to introduce myself to John during the intermission and he
is truly the nicest person you would ever want to meet. His talent is a great
gift, and I am so glad I have the pleasure of seeing his genius at work. Look
forward to seeing his one man show which I will be attending on Friday.
Rochelle Fettig: Oak Creek, WI.
I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed "Shear Madness" for the 4th time. I saw it 3 times last year. I loved it so much that I got a group of 13 to go. We were at Saturday's (11/2) performance. It was GREAT!!! We were down in front. You were picking on my brother during intermission. (Shaving cream) ... too funny. He's lost in the 70's. (LOL) I left the show wanting more. We left all trying to figure out when we could get back to see it again. It truly was a riot. You and the cast are wonderful. We already have plans to come back for another show on a Friday so we can see your show afterwards.
Louise Steglin
Hi. Yes - I'm from Cudahy and at the show on 10/27 - you ripped apart Cudahy pretty good there hey - that's ok, tho - I do to! Just wanted to let you know that a group of us from work (Grunau Project Development) saw the show on Sunday and LOVED it! Haven't laughed like that in some time! I brought along my 250 lb construction-worker fiancé and he loved it, too! He was laughing harder than I was! Thanks for an entertaining evening. I've listened to you on WKLH for awhile and couldn't wait to see you in person! I'm going to recommend your show to some friends and won't give them any "hints". Thanks for making all of us laugh John!
Patti H: Cud-a-hey!, WI.
Not only is John funny,
but he is very talented! It takes "shear" talent to get an entire theater of
people laughing! Great job!
Catherine Smith: Milwaukee
Hi John - it was so nice seeing you again
at Sheer Madness. Even though we didn't spend much time together, you will
forever be a special person to me - a moment in a different life with special
people. John, you are so talented and have the ability to grab hold of the
audience and take them with you - we laugh with you, cry with you and find our
souls with you. I went to see Lawyer, Priest and Atheist on Sunday - it touched
every emotion - everyone did such a great job.
If you find a place with an exterminator, the palmetto bugs are rarely seen.
Hope to see you again in Tampa soon and glad to hear you are doing so well with
your career, your spirituality and your life.
Julie: Tampa, Fl.
Thank you so much for the
wonderful performance you gave in Shear Madness and So a Lawyer, a Priest, and
an Atheist. I enjoyed both shows and never laughed as hard as I did in Shear
Madness. You were wonderful. I love the way you act on a whim and the facial
expressions are priceless. As a second grade teacher I completely relate to how
certain facial expressions can say it all. Also, the local references were
great. I can't wait until you have another performance at TBPAC - my husband and
I will be there for sure. Best of luck in your upcoming performances.
Kim : Tampa, Fl.
Hey John, I took my
husband to see your one man show for his birthday on the 20th (Tampa), and it
was very very funny! Sheer Madness was the first time we had seen you perform,
but it won't be the last!! I was moved by your message to your nieces and
nephews. Is there any way you could share it on your web site? See you next week
at...So a Priest, a Lawyer and an Atheist Walk Into a Bar. Love Melissa.
Melissa Menke: Valrico, Fl.
Hi John. My wife and I saw your one man show this past summer in Milwaukee. You are truly an amazing talent and a very funny man. We also saw "Shear Madness" last summer and are very much looking for its return in September. The best part about your one man show is that its all about your life and it does bring back memories of growing up. Keep up the great work John, we'll be there in September.
Randy & Laura Meyer: Kenosha, WI.
Just wanted to say my
boyfriend and I attended
the Shear Madness production last evening
and
thought you were wonderful. Please disregard that
I live in Brandon but we ya
hoos come in ta town ever now and then.
Kim Crow: Brandon, Fl.
John, I think you are really funny ... looking.
Caroline: Milwaukee, WI.
We may have a coat of
armor, but you have your own website John!!!!
Way to go.. it's awesome.
Laura Harrigan: Cedarburg, WI.
John McGivern is a "must see" if you ever get the chance. I've seen him 5 times and plan to see him again in October. My 14 year old daughter agrees. She saw him once and liked him in "Shear Madness" so much, she begged her dad to give up his ticket and let her go instead...wasn't the romantic evening I had planned, but we sure had a happy daughter. (She also will be going to see John McGivern again in October. He's FABULOUS!! I just love him!! (OOps! Don't tell the hubby...)
Amy Moews: Milwaukee, WI.
